On Children’s Day, staff from Shanghai Yanhua Public Welfare Foundation brought carefully prepared gifts to Yanhua Little Home, spending a special day with children who are receiving treatment or recovering after surgery.

Yanhua Little Home is home to children from across China. Some are waiting for important surgeries, some have recently undergone liver transplantation and are gradually adapting to their new lives, while others have completed a phase of treatment and are moving forward with hope.

For families who have traveled far from home and are temporarily staying in Shanghai for medical treatment, an ordinary Children’s Day is anything but ordinary. Hospital stays, outpatient visits, follow-up examinations, and waiting for test results... Treatment takes up much of their daily lives. But on this special day, we hoped the children could put aside their worries and anxiety for a while, and, just like every other child, enjoy a moment of happiness that belonged to them.

During our time together, we listened to parents share the perseverance and courage they have shown throughout their journey. Their stories of growing up, and the optimism they continue to hold in the face of difficulties, remind us of the gentleness and resilience of life.

A gift, a kind wish, a moment spent together. These may not capture the full meaning of Children’s Day, but they can make the day a warm and lasting memory. 

May every little liver transplant survivor be surrounded by love and accompanied by courage with every step along their journey of growing up.
